The Story
Fourteen sprays from Bree Hyland's seaside studio in Nova Scotia, running from motor oil and cut metal to marzipan and lipstick.
Grit is the newest and the roughest: mud, rubber tires and black pepper over frankincense. Witch turns candy apple sticky against wormwood and foraged herbs. The rest range wide: brine and wild roses off the Atlantic, embers with smoke but no flame, pleather and old tobacco out of a 90s chatroom, purple suede gone soft with iris, saffron gilded with glossy magazine and coins. Hyland is a visual artist who blends in small batches in Plekteaq, Scots Bay.
