STORA SKUGGAN began in Stockholm as a self-taught collective, refusing the usual route of hiring established perfumers or outside design studios to put together a fragrance line. The house's debut scent, Fantôme de Maules, offered a fresh interpretation of the chypre genre, intentionally restrained for a first release. Every formula, bottle, and story has been built in-house from the very start.

Each fragrance is constructed around a myth, an unexplained phenomenon, or a forgotten historical footnote — real or invented, the distinction is left to the wearer. The research runs as deep as the storytelling: one scent traces its concept to a letter published in the journal Nature, another reconstructs a plant praised by classical writers and harvested into extinction. Designed and produced entirely within the Stockholm studio, each release functions less like a seasonal launch than an ongoing set of olfactory case files.
