The Story
The same seed, carried over two mountain ranges, came back with two different names.
Carried across the Himalayas in secret hands in 1841, one half took root in spiced soil and brewed carmine and fruited, honey running under it, a warm flush of rose at the edge.
The other stayed behind in the cold Wuyi valleys, where kettles whistle into no echo and withered leaf is laid over burning pine until it goes tarry. That half carries earth pulled up through old roots, incense, cedar, vetiver. Bergamot lifts the first minutes, then the smoke closes over everything. One leaf, two lives, and no telling which one it was meant to have.
