The Story
A fougère is supposed to be predictable. Lavender, coumarin, oakmoss, a clean masculine structure that's been done a thousand times. That's the genre. Toxic Luxury breaks it.
Built on those same bones, then rewritten—a wall of citrus on top, a dense wood complex underneath.
The opening doesn't ease you in. Clementine, bergamot, lemon pelatrice, and grapefruit, all at once, bright and aggressive. Red rose otto and neroli otto keep it from going sharp, but the citrus leads. First spray, you know this isn't a traditional take.
The heart is where the fougère DNA starts to show again, though it's been pushed further than most go. Lavender does its work surrounded by orange blossom, jasmine sambac, and rose absolute—a floral richness the genre rarely touches. Hinoki brings a clean, meditative woodiness early. Orris adds soft powder that bridges the citrus above to the woods below, which is what keeps the composition from feeling like two fragrances stitched together.
The base is where the distance from a typical fougère becomes clearest. Malaysian oud and red meat sandalwood bring a density the genre doesn't usually reach for. Oakmoss and cedarmoss hold the classic signature in place while cedarwood, patchouli, and frankincense build around them into something with more dimension. Thyme sharpens it with a slight herbal green. Vanilla rounds the finish into something warm.
Best for early fall. The citrus still carries the last warmth of summer; the wood-heavy base reads like sweater weather. It moves with the season instead of against it.
