PINE, the eighth fragrance from Stora Skuggan, marks a departure from the brand’s usual conceptual storytelling. Instead of exploring myths like “booming unexplained sounds” or “thumb-sucking baby gods,” this perfume focuses entirely on a single note: pine. This approach aligns with the perfumery tradition of soliflores, which are fragrances centered around one dominant scent, akin to a vase showcasing a single flower—or in this case, an immense tree.

Pine trees are extraordinary organisms, among the most abundant and massive on Earth. They can reach heights of 100 meters and include some of the oldest living beings. For example, Methuselah, a 4,856-year-old bristlecone pine in California, holds the title of the oldest known individual tree, while Sweden’s Old Tjikko boasts a clonal root system over 9,000 years old. Pines predate dinosaurs, having evolved over 300 million years ago.

The fragrance PINE captures the essence of this ancient tree in all its dimensions: from fresh spruce shoots and sweet resinous sap to the earthy aroma of bark and fallen needles blanketing the forest floor. While minimal in concept, the scent is expansive and evocative—simply put, it smells like pine.
