The Story
The Ivory Coast comes in green, and the salt in the air never dries.
Lime leaf and geranium hit bitter as snapped stems, then the resins move in behind them, opoponax and amyris and Atlas cedar over dry wood, cumin keeping the body in it. Wild rose and ylang ylang bloom heavy, souring where green leather shows through, bay leaf sharp across all of it.
The rest is imagining. Mark Sage pictured a life lived at home on that coast, easier and warmer than the one it stood beside, and this is what he decided it smelled like.
