The Story
Most toxic plants are bitter. Belladonna is sweet.
That is the danger. The genus, Atropa, is named for Atropos, the final Fate. Clotho spins the thread of life and Lachesis measures it. Atropos cuts it. Belladonna takes its own name from the Renaissance women who put its berry juice in their eyes in the name of beauty. Bigger pupils were in fashion. Witches mixed the plant into flying ointment.
Here the berry is an accord, and no belladonna goes in. Sugared lip gloss flirts a little. Incense and patchouli make up a vintage amber, and a rich one. Wormwood and beeswax sit in a deep, dark potion with the berries. The decaying flowers in it are jasmine, champaca, immortelle and black currant bud. And there is a freshly cut thread of spun wool.
